My BIGGEST Marketing Mistake Ever

Almost 8 years ago to the day, I experienced a near “business” breakdown!

Yet, about 2 months prior to that infamous day, I didn’t have a care in the world.

I had the highest number of clients ever at the time, and I was earning the most money I had ever earned.

Clients were getting results, and you could tell summer was on the way.

Life was GREAT 🀩

Fast-forward almost 2 months from that point, and I found myself in despair, literally fighting to have enough money to pay the bills 😫

So, what changed?

Football is the perfect example of what happened…

Your team just scored a goal, everyone is cheering, feeling fantastic.

But, as the saying goes:

“You’re at your most vulnerable when you score.”

This is exactly what happened.

Now, with the most clients and highest income, I thought, “Why do I need to keep marketing, right?” πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And that was the biggest mistake I ever made… I stopped marketing.

I turned off all the ads, became sloppy with social media posts, and my daily emails went out the window.

During the first week, nothing changed, except a client handed in their notice.

In the second week, wow! It felt great not having to chase or sell 😎

But in the third week, three people handed in their notice as the Summer Holidays were just a week away and they had a lot going on.

By the fourth week, another person left because they were moving away.

So, in the span of a month, five clients had left for various reasons, no new sales were being made, and I had no leads in the pipeline.

Yet, no alarm bells had started to ring.

By the end of the second month, a total of eight clients had left…

I went from 25 clients paying me Β£150 per month to just 17.

With no new clients in the pipeline, a stagnant social media account, a dormant email list, and the summer holidays in full swing.

F🀬🀬K!

It could have been worse. Imagine if I had a staff member quit and take a bunch of clients with them.

Or if a competitor had moved into town and launched a massive promotional campaign.

I had to get back to marketing, and fast πŸ’¨

And as they say, the rest is history πŸ’ͺ

I opened my first studio, hired a team to run it, while also growing the marketing agency.

Finally, I sold the studio a few months back.

And ever since that day almost 8 years ago, I have never stopped marketing πŸ‘Š
