The number that decides if your studio makes money π·
Yesterday I shared the 7 things Iβd do differently if I was opening my studio again
β
You can read that post here β>> https://www.instagram.com/p/DPRz53mCKDY/
β
And one of the biggest lessons was this π
β
Most studio owners have no idea what their sessions actually cost them to run
β
Which means they donβt really know if their prices are profitable, or just keeping the lights on π¬
β
So tonight, letβs dig into how you actually work it out
β
Because once you know this number, everything else gets easier
π· Pricing
π· Capacity
π· Membership rates
π· Confidence when selling
β
Hereβs the step-by-step π
β
1οΈβ£ Work out your true monthly costs
β
Not just rent & kit, but everything
π Staff wages
π Marketing spend
π Software & systems
π Cleaning, electric, insurance, VAT
π Even a bit of profit buffer
β
2οΈβ£ Divide by your total sessions
β
Take those monthly costs and divide them by the number of sessions on your timetable
β
That gives you your true cost per session
β
π€Quick Example:
β
Letβs say your monthly costs are Β£12,000
β
You run 40 sessions a week (around 160 a month)
β
Thatβs Β£75 per session just to break even
β
With 10 spots in a class, thatβs Β£7.50 per head just to cover costs
β
3οΈβ£ Factor in realistic capacity
β
Sessions are rarely 100% full
β
So instead of pricing on max capacity, base it on 60β70%
β
π If you know youβll usually have 6β7 people in, your minimum viable price per head is around Β£12β13
β
Anything above that is profit
β
4οΈβ£ Convert it to monthly memberships
β
Most members train 3x per week
β
So if your break-even per session is Β£12β13, that means their minimum viable membership is Β£144β156 per month
β
Price higher than that, and youβre profitable
β
π₯ Real-world FitHub30 example
β
When we ran FitHub30 in Cardiff, hereβs how it looked:
β
π 13 sessions a day MonβFri + 3 on Saturday = 68 sessions a week
β
π All-in running costs (inc. 2 FT coaches + 2 FT sales & retention staff + buffer + profit) = Β£15,000 per month
β
That meant:
π· Β£15,000 Γ· 272 sessions = Β£55 per session
π· With 10 spots per class = Β£5.50 per head just to cover costs
β
Factor in the average client doing 3 sessions per week (around 12 a month)
β
π Thatβs a baseline of Β£66 per month just to break even
β
So if you charge Β£150β200 per month, youβve got healthy margins (We charges between Β£97 & Β£127pm)
β
Anything above that is pure growth
β
And thatβs exactly how we scaled to multiple staff, consistent profit, and eventually sold the studio for 6 figures
